OCEAN VUONG'S POETRY WORKSHOP: "The poet's job is to suggest a new hierarchy," Ocean Vuong said one soft October night during a poetry salon in his small apartment living room in Queens, New York. Like we did that evening in Ocean's apartment, in this workshop, you will explore how to suggest a new hierarchy, both on the page and in your life. Yes indeed, you will write and read poetry during this session.
Register for Ocean • 45 • Bring your receipt for admission.
Ocean's following comment will give you a good idea of the kind of questions you will explore. “The reading of poetry is in itself an act of political resistance to the mainstream, particularly in this election cycle, where there is this great anxiety for certainty.
What is your position? What is your stance? Why are you flip-flopping? There’s an anxiety of certainty and power and boldness … But poetry acknowledges the true complexity of what it means to be human, which is that nothing is ever that certain.”
This workshop is SOLD OUT. Admission for adults 45 dollars. FREE for Students. Register now.
